A leading Sinn Fein TD has heavily criticised Irish Water after they failed to produce any evidence to support their persistent claims that it would cost €100 million to abolish the state utility.

The heavy criticism has come from Sinn Féin’s Pearse Doherty who recently received documents confirming the whopping figure. Mr Doherty has claimed there is no proof of the utility’s “back of the envelope calculation” of the costs.

Mr Doherty said: “This was an exercise in self-preservation by them and the least we would expect from Irish Water.” “They have no email, no documents to underpin the €100 million figure.

“This was an attempt to try to scare the public away from parties who suggested that Irish Water should be abolished.”

However Irish Water claim their estimates are correct given the fact they have conducted an extensive review of how much it would cost to disband the company.
