Sinn Fein will call for an unified Ireland if Britain decides to opt out of the EU




Britain is just a mere few weeks away from deciding whether or not if they want to remain in the EU, the people of Northern Ireland could have a whole lot to reconsider as Sinn Fein will openly call for referendum calling for a United Ireland if Britain opts out of Europe.

The call for the six counties to return to the Republic is being led by Sinn Féin MEP Matt Carthy, who claims Britain’s quick exit would create the ‘democratic imperative’ for a referendum on the issue and the future of Northern Ireland.

Mr Carthy comments come after an address at a recent conference in Co Antrim, in which he stated: “The only type of united Ireland that interests me in is one that is agreed, inclusive, pluralist and which is constructed by all our citizens, from whatever background or tradition.”

However the Sinn Fein MEP did state that an United Ireland would only work if there was enough support from a significant subsection of unionists,
