After a brief and mild respite, wintry conditions are set to return with a vengeance today.
Met Eireann have issued a countrywide snow and ice warning, which took effect at 6am earlier today, and will remain in place until 11am tomorrow.
Snowfalls may reach up to 3cm during the course of today and tomorrow, with the north and west predicted to have the largest accumulation.
The next couple of days will be very cold and windy, with widespread rain turning to sleet in parts. Low nighttime temperatures will create heavy frost, thus making for hazardous walking and driving conditions in the morning time.
