In one of the most bizarre stories of 2018 so far, Russian policemen have been praised for helping to put out a fire by throwing snowballs at it.

The Moscow Times reports that Yevgeny Lunin and Pavel Istomin spotted the blaze in Kuragino, in the region of Krasnoyarsk, in Siberia, Russia, on Monday on Monday during a routine patrol in the area when they say a fire coming out of a garage.

They quickly evacuated residents from the area but realised that the fire was growing, fast. They then decided to use snowballs to keep the fire from spreading, according to the Krasnoyarsk Interior Ministry.

A statement from Krasnoyarsk Interior Ministry said: “The guardians of law and order continued to hurl snow at the burning fence and garage gates before firefighters arrived.”

The Fire Brigade then came to the scene and got the fire under control.

The two men have been hailed as heroes and are now in line for a big award for their bravery.
