So-called ‘sugar tax’ will kick in on April 6 next




The so-called ‘sugar tax’ announced on last October’s budget will come into effect on April 6.

As per the guidelines outlined on Budget Day:

  • Tax of 30c per litre of drinks with 8 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters.
  • Tax of 20c per litre on drinks with between 5 grams and 8 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters

Popular fizzy drinks such as Coke, Sprite, and Fanta are in line for a substantial hike.
