Social media users angered at court order to demolish Meath couple’s dream home

Social media users were angered after it was revealed that a couple in County Meath were told by the Supreme Court that they have 12 months to demolish their palatial home which they built in 2006.

According to the Irish Times the house was built on land which the couple bought from a farmer in the mid 2000s.

They allegedly built the 6,200 sq ft house without the proper planning permission and Meath County Council took the couple to court to have their house at Faughan Hill, Bohermeen, Navan, taken down.

Debate broke out on social media after the verdict to demolish the house was given the go ahead.

Most users say that the couple should just have a fine imposed with retroactive planning permission granted.

Social media users claim “how can this happen with the amount of people homeless already, they’re making this couple demolish their home”. Another said “it’s just not right, give them the planning permission now!”.

What’s your take on the verdict to have the house demolished?
