Last night RTE continued with their course and aired a documentary about transgender people in Ireland.
The relatively short documentary was mired in controversy before, during and after it aired.
Members of the LGBTQ transgender community planned to protest outside RTE yesterday evening in opposition to a pre-recorded interview with Fr Ted creator Graham Linehan.
According to the Irish Times, Linehan has accused some activists supporting transgender people of holding an “extreme, misogynist ideology”.
Primetime decide to air the pre-recorded interview with Linehan in spite of major opposition to the Fr Ted creator being part of the read.
An online petition against Linehan being on the show read: “Graham Linehan is not a medical expert and he is not transgender. He has frequently expressed transphobic views in public and has used his social media platform to denigrate transgender people.”
