Stargazers be ready as you may well be treated to spectacle tonight and over the coming nights, as the annual Perseid meteor shower can be seen all over the country this week.
The phenomenon will see the skies having 20 times more shooting stars than normal, which can be seen from almost anywhere provided it is not cloudy. Although Met Éreann’s forecasters say the outlook for tonight looks positive for most places, with a risk of some broken cloud, mist and fog in certain areas. The phenomenon has many stargazers excited and none more so than astronimists at Astronomy Ireland, who say the Perseids can be seen almost anywhere in the sky, and no special equipment is necessary to see them.
Experts also say the spectacle will last all night and will most likely visible when the sky is dark, between the hours of 10:30pm and 4:30am.
