Stargazers delight: Both Mars and a ‘Blood Moon’ are to appear in the skies later this month




There is a real treat in store for stargazers later this month as Mars will be visible to the naked eye for the first time since 2003.

In a rare natural phenomenon the red planet will be closer to earth than it has ever been and it will be visible without the need of a telescope to millions across the globe.

The event which is will take place on the 27th of July will coincide with another rare phenomenon as a Blood Moon is expected to appear above our skies.

Experts say the lunar eclipse will cause to the moon to appear as an orange/red colour when the earth passed between the earth and the moon.

NASA say the red moon which will last for 43 minutes will be able to be seen from Ireland and the UK providing weather is permitting.

It is expected that the rare event will provide a great opportunity for amateur photographers to capture shots that a rarely ever seen.
