The national forecaster has issued a Status Orange warning as winds of up to 130km/h are set to batter the country over the next few hours.
The warning will kick in at 1am on Friday morning and remain in effect for seven hours.
Coastal areas around the west of the country will bear the brunt of the wind onslaught.
Meanwhile, a Status Yellow warning for heavy rain remains in place for 10 counties.
The outlook is for a weekend of sporadic rain showers and cold temperatures.
