Staying warm this winter: Government to offer fuel allowance payments in lump sums instead of weekly payments

There was good news for those who avail of the fuel allowance today as the Government announced this afternoon that the allowance will be paid in lump sums instead of weekly payments.

The move comes after a number of recipients’ have recently voiced their concerns over the payment as most household fuel providers request that their products be bought in bulk rather than single transactions.

Although the new system will be rolled out on a trial basis, the Government say recipients will be able to receive two lump sums of €292.50 in October, and January rather than weekly payments of €22.50.

The news has already received backing from those who avail of the allowance who say they can happily heat their homes this winter without fear of having no money to pay their providers who normally charge upwards of €200 for home heating products such as oil and coal.
