Storm Eleanor causes widespread flooding around Limerick, Cork, and Galway -up to 50,000 homes and business premises are without power




Storm Eleanor has hit the country hard this evening, causing widespread flooding across areas of Limerick, Cork, and Galway.

There are currently three weather warnings in effect; a nationwide Orange Alert, in place until 10pm this evening. A Status Yellow Alert for wind, which will remain in place until 9pm on Wednesday evening, and a Yellow Warning for rain.

Gusts of wind of up to 130km/h are expected in places.

Motorists are advised to proceed with extreme caution.

Up to 50,000 homes and business premises remain without power.
