The tropical Storm Florence has dumped “epic amounts” of rain and claims eight lives as it hits American landfall.
The rain mostly fell on North and South Carolina as it made its way inland, starting floods and putting up 1 million homes and businesses out of power.
At least eight people have been killed so far with large regions of land said to be completely inaccessible from rescue workers.
“This system is unloading epic amounts of rainfall, in some places measured in feet and not inches,” North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper told a news briefing.
“This is a hurricane event followed by a flood event,” said South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster.
