Storm Frank: Thousands of homes without power this morning and houses evacuated after flash flooding in east Cork

Storm Frank has carved a path of devastation across the country, much like Desmond did earlier this month.

Impassable roads, flooded streets, and destroyed businesses nationwide are the storm’s legacy.

Torrential rain yesterday and overnight caused flash flooding in areas of east Cork, forcing the evacuation of up to a dozen homes in a Midleton housing state.

Elsewhere, in Graiguenamanagh, Co. Kilkenny, severe flooding has devastated the town. Locals refer to it as a “war zone”, after roads and businesses were wiped out in minutes by the deluge. The town’s main street is said to be under three or four feet of water.

Meanwhile, thousands of homes across the country remain without power this morning. Some flights were also disrupted due to the severity of the weather yesterday evening.
