A heroic French policeman who was killed in an Islamic State inspired attack will not be honoured with a street renamed after him as this may offend Muslims.
Arnaud Beltrame voluntarily took the place of a hostage during a siege involving a deranged Muslim terrorist in the French town of Trèbes. The Jihadi was armed with a rifle, a hunting knife and three IEDs.
The Islamist, named as Radouane Lakdim, had seized the hostages in a supermarket in the town and threatened to murder them, Beltrame offered to take the place of the last remaining hostage a female cashier. He was later stabbed to death by Lakdim.
In honour of the hero policeman sacrificing his life a street was to be renamed in his honour in Marseille but this has been scrapped for fears it may anger the Muslim community in the city.
