Strike action amongst nursing staff at the nation’s hospitals looms as Minister for Finance says there is no room for a pay increase

There could soon be industrial action amongst staff at the nation’s hospitals after the Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe said that there will be no increase in pay nurses.

The threat of strike action has been increased after Mr Donohoe claimed that the Government cannot meet the demands of the INMO by offering a 12% increase.

Speaking on The Tonight Show on Virgin Media One recently, Mr Donohoe said there is no room for an increase within the current wage agreements.

Mr Donohoe also claimed that the Government would find it difficult to meet any demand submitted by the union.

Although no official confirmation has been made in regards to strike action, it is believed that INMO members are becoming increasingly frustrated with the current staffing levels at the country’s hospitals.

Chiefs at the union say low pay is the main issues when it comes to staff recruitment.

It is expected the results of INMO ballot asking for industrial action will be published in the coming weeks ahead.
