Student unions slam motor insurance companies for unfairly forcing young drivers out of the market

A number of student unions have once again slammed motor insurance companies for the continuing increase in insurance premiums, claiming they are forcing young people out of the motoring market.

The scathing attack comes after a recent report by the Department of Transport revealed that there has been significant decrease in the number of 17-20 year olds looking to obtain their learner permit/provisional licence over the past 10 years.

A number of Student unions claim the unfair and unjustified rising insurance premium costs are a major factor in the decline.

They have also said students are being unfairly targeted by companies who statistically attribute most road accidents to young drivers even though some young people haven’t even obtained their licence yet.
