Study: New parents lose a month’s sleep

Over 25% of parents with newborn babies are going for more than a month without a good night’s sleep.

New research shows that mums and dads are collectively losing almost a million hours of sleep every night.

On average, babies wake up more than twice – and for almost half an hour each time.

The fact that the baby’s REM sleep cycle differs to that of an adult makes it harder for parents to catch a good night’s sleep and can put them in “sleep debt” that can be hard to catch up on as it builds up over time.

Napping is a great way to combat this, as well as working with your partner in “sleep shifts” to ensure that you both get the adequate amount of sleep per night in order for the body to physically function correctly- 7 to 8 hours.
