Minister Ann Phelan has today said that the Government cannot “promise” that the much-vaunted superfast fibre broadband will be rolled out to every single home in certain provincial areas.

Irrespective of the technology used, the minister said that speeds of 30 Mb. are achieved in rural areas.

Ms. Phelan has said that the broadband issue remains a “priority” for the Government, and added that she in close collaboration with Communications Minister Alex White to expedite the rollout process.

A procurement process will begin towards the Autumn, and once a provider is chosen, the physical network should be in place within three to five years.
