Support for an United Ireland on the rise after latest poll shows a five point increase




In the wake of Britain’s exit from the EU there has been much talk about the possibility if an United Ireland, and now it seems support for such a scenario is on the increase.

Although such a prospect is a long way off a new survey conducted by Ipsos Mori has found more people North of the border are open to the idea.

The latest survey involving more than 1,000 people carried out on the behalf of BBC political programme The View, between August 16th and September 2nd, found that there was a five-point increase in support for a United Ireland (22%), which marks a rise from 17% in 2013 .

The poll also found that four out of ten people with a Catholic background (43%) would welcome a United Ireland, up from 35% in 2013. However the vast majority of Protestants were still against the idea, with 72% saying no.
