According to local authorities, the 21-year-old man suspected to have carried out the shooting at a Charleston church that left nine people dead has been captured.
The suspect has been named as DYlan Roof, and was seen being taken into custody in North Carolina earlier today.
The racially motivated attack took place yesterday evening at the Emanuel AME Church, in downtown Charleston, at around 9pm local time. Eight people were killed at the scene, while a ninth victim died on the way to the hospital.
The shooting came two months after an unarmed black man was shot dead by a white police officer in a neighboring area. The incident sparked major protests, and highlighted the issue of racial conflict in the locality.
