Swelter melter: Ireland experienced its hottest day of the year as temperatures reached 30.8C – with more to come

Ireland once again seen records broken on Wednesday as the country recorded its warmest day of 2018.

The news of the sweltering temperatures comes as the country is in the middle of a heatwave that could very well see the country experience its hottest day in over 40 years.

According to latest figures published by Met Eireann, Shannon Airport was the hottest place in Ireland on Wednesday as temperatures reached a sizzling 30.8C.

Meanwhile other areas such as Mount Dillon in Co Roscommon and Athenry in Co Galway, also recorded temperatures of 30.5C and 30.0C respectively.

The sweltering conditions which have been experienced all across with roads melting in some regions, has prompted Met Eireann to issue a yellow status heat warning until the weekend.

It is expected temperatures could even rise further on Thursday with highs of 32C expected in some places.
