Take Back The City campaign hold protest on Dublin’s Ha’penny Bridge to highlight current homeless figures

A group of 40 people took to Dublin’s Ha’penny Bridge on Thursday to protest against the current homeless and housing crisis.

The protest which came on the same day as the Government published the latest home figures, saw people display banner which highlighted homelessness and domestic violence against women.

Those behind the protest the Take Back The City campaign said they decided to hold the protest as part of the 16 Days Of Action Opposing Violence Against Women campaign.

Take Back The City say they chose to highlight both issues as homelessness is one of the major contributors to domestic violence against women.

The protest was made all the more significant as latest figures published by the Department of Housing show there are currently 9,724 homeless people across the country.
