Joan Burton has today stated that the Coalition may cut bankruptcy to one year, as a measure to prompt banks to agree a deal with those people saddled with debt.
Labour TD Willie Penrose is said to be working on drafting new legislation that would reduce the period of bankruptcy from the current 36 months to just 12 months.
These news follow widespread reports that some banks are refusing to finalise insolvency arrangements with a number of borrowers.
