Tánaiste Joan Burton insists that Sinn Féin must explain their actions in the handling of the Mairia Cahill rape case.

Ms Cahill claims she was raped by a leading member of the IRA when she was just 16 years old, she also claims that the attack was covered up by Sinn Féin an accusation which party leader Gerry Adams strongly denies.
Mairia Cahill also says that she was brought face to face with her alleged attacker in a “kangaroo court” whilst they investigated the claims.

The Tánaiste has said that Sinn Féin still still has a lot questions to answer for. Speaking on radio station Ocean FM she said: “There’s no doubt, and I think a lot of figures in Sinn Féin have now acknowledged it, including the leader and the deputy leader to a certain extent, where there’s an issue arounf abuse, and particularly when it involves a child, and there’s somebody whom, after this sort of kangaroo court, Sinn Féin doesn’t seem to disagree that all of this happened.”
