The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Tánaiste Simon Coveney have arrived in New York to launch Ireland’s bid for a seat on the UN Security Council.
Mr Varadkar and Mr Coveney will officially begin their campaign to secure a number of votes from current UN members later today.
It is hoped that other leading nations will give Ireland a seat ahead of Norway and Canada.
If accepted Ireland will be given a two year term beginning in 2021.
