Taoiseach: ‘Fine Gael is not a party of yes men’

The Taoiseach has today moved to play down claims that he is surrounded by a meek group of ‘yes men.’

Mr. Kenny’s words come in the wake of comments made by Waterford TD John Deasy, who said that some party members are “becoming disgusted” with the manner in which Fine Gael is being run.

That piece of criticism was aimed at the Taoiseach, and it came on the back of the John McNulty cronyism row. Such affair caused uproar within Fine Gael, and seriously damaged the Taoiseach’s reputation.

Mr. Kenny has said that he is ‘fully aware’ of the challenges he faces both as party leader and Taoiseach, and shrugged off Mr. Deasy’s comments saying that ‘he (the Taoiseach) did his best to expose himself to critics’ and that he ‘does not discourage criticism’ from party members.
