Speaking to reporters in Co. Mayo this morning Taoiseach Enda Kenny has stated that he has no intention of staying beyond the remit of the next government to be Taoiseach”.

Kenny has stated that Chief Whip Paul Kehoe employed “a lot of poetic licence” when making a statement earlier this week about Kenny’s plans to serve another full term in Government and contest another election afterwards, saying that; “It would be arrogant and presumptuous of any public representative to assume that they can be elected to anything, myself included, until the people vote”.

While attending the landing of the first transatlantic pilgrimage to Knock this morning, the Taoiseach also spoke of his intentions to win the next election and once again lead a Fine Gael/Labour Government in the coming years.

He also commented on the current homeless crisis, saying that its “not suitable” to house homeless people in Bed and Breakfasts and hotels after recent figure show an increase in numbers of homeless people, especially families. This statement come after the Department of Enviroment released figures which showed an increase of 55% in homeless families since the start of the year.
