Taoiseach: “Irish Water charges will remain in effect if Fine Gael and Labour are re-elected to Government”




The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said the current Water charges will remain in effect if Fine Gael and Labour are re-elected to government next spring.

Mr Kenny made his comments whist speaking to RTE radio recently, in the interview the Taoiseach also insisted that setting up Irish Water was a good decision and the right thing do despite a catalogue of errors within the company. Mr Kenny also admitted the Government has failed to adequately deal with the current hospital trolley crisis which is now a lot more worse than when the coalition came into power. When he was asked if the mcg hated tax was here to stay, the Taoiseach replied by saying “yes”. Mr Kenny said: “Yes, the contributions for water will stay.” The Taoiseach also stated that setting up Irish Water was the right thing to do, despite massive losses.

Mr Kenny also added: “I think it was the right decision to set up Irish Water. It was the right decision to have a single entity. “I think it’s the right decision to see the savings that are going to come here between here and 2021.”
