Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is gearing up for a General Election – “If there’s going to be an election – it should be before Christmas”

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar was interviewed on Six One News in a very fraught interview with presenter Sharon ni Bheolain.

Ni Bheolain pulled no punches and really went after the Taoiseach for some hard-hitting answers.

Asked whether he’d accept the Tanaiste Frances Fitzgerald’s resignation, he said simply that “it won’t come to that”, he believes “she did nothing wrong”.

Asked further as to whether “we’re now in election mode” – Leo said that he hoped it wouldn’t come to that but if there is an election, it should be before Christmas.

One can only ascertain from the interview that we really are in election mode now and that Fianna Fail won’t give in and Varakdar won’t sack Fitzgerald, who herself won’t resign.

It appears that even if Fitzgerald did resign at this stage that it appears to be almost too far gone to be anything but a snap General Election.
