Taoiseach says children living in emergency accommodation is offensive




The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that he finds it offensive that young children are living in emergency accommodation.

Mr Varadkar who was speaking on RTE’s The Late Late Show, said that the current homeless crisis is a real issue that keeps him awake at night.

The Taoiseach who host Ryan Tubridy that every effort is being to address the crisis, said that he is often told by people that it is offensive that young children are living in emergency accommodation.

The Taoiseach said that he fully agrees with those who have made that statement and ageed that emergency accommodation is no place for young children as it impacts on their lives.

Although the Taoiseach said that he thinks its impossible to eradicate homelessness, he did state that he and the Government are doing everything possible to improve the situation.

Mr Varadkar also issued an apology to those who are homeless and said that he fully sympathises with their situation.
