Taoiseach says President Trump’s visit to Ireland must be respected regardless of difference of opinions




The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that the upcoming US Presidential visit must be respected even though he and some people disagree with President Trump’s policies.

Mr Varadkar who was speaking on RTÉ Radio One’s The Marty squad, said he welcomes President Trump’s visit to Ireland even though it completely came out of the blue.

The Taoiseach who said he is looking forward to the upcoming visit in November, told the programme that he and the Government were unaware of President Trump’s plans to visit the country.

Mr Varadkar said that he and the government only found out a few days before the official announcement was made via the White House.

However in what will be a historic visit for the US President, the Taoiseach said that although he personally disagrees with some of President Trump’s policies. He and the Irish people should honour the visit as Ireland have a long standing relationship with the US.

The Taoiseach also told listeners that the relationship is stronger than any administration or government and that the office of the US President must always be respected.
