Gardaí in Co Westmeath have confirmed that they have arrested a teenage boy in connection with the shooting of a man in Athlone over the weekend.
It is understood the arrest comes after the victim who is in his 20s, was shot in the leg during an altercation at approximately 9.40pm on Saturday evening.
Gardaí say the man has since been discharged from hospital and that the boy is currently being held at Athlone Garda station.
