Terror in Dundalk: Gardai say 18-yr-old Egyptian migrant stabbed man to death in random unprovoked attack and was wielding a garden post when they confronted him

Gardai say the 18-yr-old Egyptian migrant who was stabbed a 24-yr-old Japanese man to death on the Avenue road in Dundalk this morning was wielding a garden post when they confronted him.

The migrant attacked the young gentleman as he was making his way to work shortly before 9am this morning.

The 24-yr-old Japanese man tragically died at the scene on the Avenue Road near the centre of the town.

Two more Irishmen were then subsequently attacked with either an iron bar or garden post between 9am and 9:30am in Seatown and near Coes Road towards the north end of the town.

A garda saw the 18-yr-old Egyptian migrant then wielding a garden post near the Inner Relief road where he called for backup.

A number of gardai confronted the man who then attacked them with the post but thankfully they managed to overpower him and take him into custody in Dundalk  garda station where he is currently detained.

Gardai say they are looking at terrorism as a line of inquiry.
