Text scam warning: AIB urge customers to ignore and delete bogus text message which requests they contact them to unlock their card




AIB customers across the country are being urged to be on alert as there is a new texting scam doing the rounds that tricks customers into giving away their bank account details.

It is understood the sophisticated new scam which trick customers into thinking their ATM/Debit card is locked has emanated from the UK as the text is coming from a UK registered number.

In a brief statement an AIB spokesperson has warned customers to ignore and delete the text immediately as the bank would never ask anyone to provide their details over the phone.

They also said the scam is made more legit as the would be scammers request that customers ring the number stated in the text so that they can unlock their card.

Once a customers calls the number, the clever scammers then pretend to be one of the bank’s customer service advisors who then proceed to question them about their personal details.
