Thanks but Goodbye – Varadkar said to be considering axing a number of long serving Ministers who backed him for leadership role in Cabinet shakeup

It has been rumoured over the past number of days that there could be a shakeup within the cabinet once Leo Varadkar is elected leader next week.

According to sources near the Varadkar camp the current Social Protection Minister could very well move a number of high profile ministers to different positions within the Government, whilst the party could see a number of long serving minister being replaced with junior ministers in a bid to breathe fresh life into the party.

It is understood Mr Varadkar believes the Fine Gael party needs a minor shakeup to regain voter confidence and that could very well mean axing a number of high profile long serving Ministers who overwhelmingly backed him to take the leadership role in the first place.

Sources also say that Mr Varadkar is considering naming the current Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe as the new Finance Minister once Michael Noonan steps down in the coming weeks ahead.

Although talk of a major shakeup have been repeatedly dismissed it is thought Mr Varadkar is determined to make changes across the board and not just introduce new policies for the sake of it.
