The (almost) end of the world as we know it: Global killer asteroid zoomed past Earth at an uncomfortably close distance on Sunday

People of Earth went around their daily business on Sunday morning, just like any other day, blissfully unaware of how close to extinction the human race came to be.

A 110m-long asteroid, deemed 2018 GE3, flew past our home planet at a mere 192,500k -a whisker in astronomical terms. To put this into perspective, the Moon is about twice as far.

The event has been entered into log books as the closest ever near miss, since records began anyway.
