An Post has warned that the price of stamps is likely to rise from 72c to €1 in the near future. The company has also announced a ‘significant’ number of closures among rural post offices.
It is thought that a large number of employess will be made redundant as a result.
The closures will signify the decimation of rural postal services, as post offices will be relocated to the inside of supermarkets in more populated areas.
This follows Ulster Bank’s announcement of a similarly significant scaling down of its rural services.
