The popular streaming service Netflix have confirmed that it’s hit series House of Cards will end next year after a six year run.

In a statement released on Monday night the streaming provider revealed that the show which stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright will come to an end in 2018 when the 13 episode series six airs on the streaming service.

Although the company said a decision on the future of the show was made during the summer, it is thought that recent allegations against the show’s star Spacey has seemingly put the final nail in the coffin in regards to the show’s future.

In a statement released on Monday Netflix said: “Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey.”

“In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”

Reports in the US claim that Netflix’s decision to axe the show was made after fellow actor and Star Trek Discovery star Anthony Rapp claimed that Spacey who has since come out as gay made sexual advances towards him when he was only 14 years old.

Spacey has since denied Rapp’s claims that he forced himself upon him at his apartment during party, saying: ‘He does not recall the incident, but he is deeply horrified to hear this story.’

He added: ‘But if I did behave in away as what Rapp describes, i owe him the sincerest apologies.’
