Presidential candidate Liadh Ní Riada, has seemingly turned up the heat on fellow candidate and current President Michael D Higgins by asking to reveal his expenditures whilst in office.
The Sinn Féin candidate who has written to President Higgins asking him to outline his use of public money, has said the Irish public deserve to know what the current President has spent taxpayer money on in the past few years.
It is understood Ms Ní Riada, will once again push hard against president Higgins over the use of his €300,000 expense account in tomorrow night’s RTÉ TV debate.
President Higgins who has come under scrutiny in recent days over the use of a private jet whilst travelling on the island of Ireland, will be forced to answer further questions about his lavish spending whilst in office.
Although President Higgins has defended the use of a jet whilst travelling to Belfast, Ms Ní Riada has said discussing the issues surrounding the President’s expense account should happen as the public need to be reassured that finances are being used appropriately.
