The Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, may soon be transferred from Broadmoor Psychiatric Hospital to prison

The infamous Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, may soon be moved from Broadmoor High Security Psychiatric Hospital to a ‘mainstream’ prison, after a recent ruling stated that he is mentally fit to continue imprisonment elsewhere.

Sutcliffe, 70, was convicted of murdering 13 women and the attempted murder of seven other females. He was sentenced to 20 concurrent life sentences for his crimes. Following his conviction, Sutcliffe decided to use his mother’s maiden name, Coonan, and was internet at the Broadmoor facility.

The move to transfer Sutcliffe out of Broadmoor was recommended by a panel of experts, who believe he no longer requires psychiatric treatment. Sutcliffe, who will never be released into society after a 2010 High Court ruling, may spend the rest of his natural life inside a mainstream prison.
