Next month will mark the 10th sad anniversary of little Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.
Now, 10 years later, the nanny who was working in Praia da Luz when Madeline McCann went missing has finally broken silence regarding that horrifying night.
A night that she will never forget the woman a former Ocean Club worker who worked with the McCann’s during their family holiday has said she believes a number of police mistakes led to the infant never being found in time.
The woman who has since ended her career as a nanny told The Mirror newspaper that she believes the area were the family were staying during their trip was that unsafe they would have never really been there in first place if they had known about the ongoing crime at the resort.
In a extensive interview the former nanny revealed that Praia da Luz was so unsafe female staff working in the region were given rape whistles as a precaution after a number of alleged sexual assaults had taken place over the years prior to Madeleine’s disappearance.
The woman who also said she fondly remembers the infant, told the paper: “We were told, ‘Here’s a rape whistle, don’t go anywhere by yourself, ever.’ There’d been a girl attacked the year or so before in Praia da Luz. It didn’t sound like a family resort to me.”
The former nanny who fully supports the McCann’s also recalled of how she seen the full extent of their anguish once they realised their beloved daughter was missing.
She also claimed that Madeline’s mother Kate was that distraught from learning of Madeline’s disappearance she was left in a catatonic state, which led her to believe there was “no way they did it”.
The former resort worker who has since vowed she would never to return to her former profession, also told the paper that she fully believes the police were also at fault once they began their investigation.
She claimed that a number of critical errors were made that should never have happened to begin with, she explained that officers told staff to “start looking in bins in case her body was in there” just hours after the youngster went missing, the former nanny also accused police of being unprofessional by allowing a number of people to enter the crime scene even though it had been sealed off.
The woman who still harbours hopes that Madeleine can still be found alive also revealed that she is often asked if she thinks the parents committed the crime, but insists the thought never entered her mind saying there is “no way at all”.
The woman who also said the horrifying incident left her that scared to return to child minding, told the paper of how both parents reacted to the news of Madeline’s disappearance.
She said: “Kate was pacing up and down. The worst possible thing had just happened to her.”
“I think I said something like, ‘She’ll be found, these things happen all the time.’
“She was crying but, almost in a catatonic state, and Gerry was very distressed. That’s the one thing I really remember from him, looking under the cars. I can’t forget that.”
Before finalising her interview the woman claimed that police had left out vital chunks of her interview when trying to establish a timeline of events. She also said if things had have happened differently Madeline may have been found in time but unfortunately it wasn’t to be the case and a number of errors have proven to be “costly and catrostrophic.”
