Thinking of your next holiday break already? Easter will be particularly long this year

Going back to work today, perhaps, but with your next holiday firmly entrenched on your mind?

The festive Christmas period may be just over, but Easter is just around the corner, really.

This year, children will finish school on Wednesday March 16, and will not have to go back until Monday, April 4. That means they will have 19 days off in total.

Because St. Patrick’s Day falls so close to the beginning of Easter in 2016, the Departent of Education has awarded an extra day to “group” both holidays together. However, schools will have to make up for this day at a later date.

Existing regulations specify that primary schools are obliged to open for 183 days, while at second level, institutions must be open for 167 days.
