Thousands turn out in Drogheda for the start of the Fleadh Cheoil 2018

Thousands of people turned out yesterday for the start of the Fleadh Cheoil festival in Drogheda, Co. Louth.

There was street concerts and gigs on every corner of the town with the entire town jam packed from the evening until the small hours also.

Drogheda is hosting the Fleadh Cheoil with an estimated 400,000 extra people expected to stay in and around the town from today until the 19th.

Permits are needed as roads will be cut off going in and out of the town with shuttle buses bringing people in from around a 1 mile radius.

It’s understood that the Fleadh have organised their own security to check permits rather than having a strong garda presence.
