Three babies have sadly died after a vessel sank off the coast of Libya this morning it has been confirmed.
It is understood the three infants died after the boat which had 120 passengers on board got into difficulties a few hours after it departed from Garaboulli, which is located east of Tripoli.
Athough some survivors managed to make their way ashore in Al-Hmidiya, authorities say a further 100 people are reported missing.
It is reported that the vessel got into difficulties after an explosion occurred on board the vessel which was carrying mostly Moroccan and Yemeni families.
The ship began to sink after water made its way on board fairly rapidly.
Although nearby ships seen the vessel in distress it is believed that it had already sank before rescue services could make their way to the vessel.
Authorities say a wide scale search operation is underway to find any further survivors.
