Tiebreaker – Wimbledon officials confirm they will not be rescheduling the men’s final even though England may be in the World Cup final which overlaps it

Officials at the All-England lawn tennis Club aka Wimbledon have confirmed that they won’t be rescheduling next Sunday’s men’s singles final even though it’ll likely be overlapped by the World Cup final.

According to the BBC (and even commentators during the matches yesterday), the Wimbledon committee say that the gentlemen’s singles final will commence at 2pm, as it does every year, regardless of the possibility that England may be in the World Cup final which starts next Sunday at 4pm.

Usually, not always, but usually the men’s final goes on for 3 to 4 hours – which obviously would see either most if not all of the World Cup final being over by the time the tennis ends.

The All-England clubs says that they’re delighted the England is into the semi final and hopes they go on to get into the final. They claim that they’ve got brilliant Wifi and that all spectators are entitled to privately and quietly watch the World Cup final on their phones but that they will not be changing the start time of 2pm.

We’ll see what happens if England beat Croatia tomorrow night in Moscow – one would suspect more pressure will be placed on Wimbledon to set their start time at 1pm rather than 2pm. It’ll be very interesting to see come Thursday morning if England win tomorrow night!
