Tit for tat: FF must scrap plans to abolish Water charges, whilst FG must keep the USC if they are to form a coalition

Talks about forming a new Government will resume this morning one month after polling day.

It is understood that rivals Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil could be set to discuss the possibility of a partnership, although both parties have their own demands. It is understood that Mr Kenny’s party are considering the possibility of performing an u-turn on their devotion to scrapping the USC, but they will only do so if Fianna Fáil backs down on their plans to scrap water charges.

However a senior member of Fianna Fáil would not discuss the rumoured suggestions. Fianna Fáil TD Eamon O’Cuiv instead spoke if his party’s difference from Fine Gael. “I’m not getting into negotiations here this morning, and I’m not on the negotiating team.”

“What I’m saying to you is – Fianna Fáil have a totally different approach to the progress of this nation from Fine Gael, and just as people understand that the AAA are very different from Fianna Fáil in their approach, we have fundamentally different approaches [than Fine Gael].”
