According to reports BBC’s former hit show Top of the Pops is rumoured to be returning to our screens but with a twist.
The announcement comes after management at the BBC realised that the show still has large following after the success of Adele’s recent TOTP special which aired earlier this month. The infamous show’s potential return came about after BBC director of music, Bob Shennan, said he believes the popular show should be back on television. Shennan told the Sunday Telegraph of the possible revival: “Top Gear was reborn and reinvented to be about much, much more than cars. “I guess that’s a good analogy for what we’re talking about. We’re not just talking about straight music; we’re talking about extra elements and uniqueness.
Shennan further explained: “If just bringing back Top of the Pops was such a straightforward and obvious thing to do, somebody on some channel would have done it.” The director of music insisted that the show which still airs its annual Christmas special would not be coming back in a weekly slot. He also said that if the show were to make a comeback there would have to be a number of changes, saying: “The challenge is to find a new way to bring it to mainstream audiences. We’re going to have to find a new twist.”
