Tough guy Varadkar says a hard border “cannot be contemplated”

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that a hard border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, as the EU is insisting will be a reality if there is a no deal Brexit, cannot be contemplated, RTE reported.

The Taoiseach made the remarks in the Croatian capital of Zagreb after a meeting with the country’s Prime Minister.

Meanwhile the UK’s Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, has said that unless the EU changes its approach to the negotiations about Britain’s impending exit from the bloc, there is a very real possibility of a no-deal Brexit by “accident”, the BBC reported.

If a no deal Brexit does materialise, the Irish border will become an EU frontier on par with its border with Russia or other non-EU states.
