A set of tougher drink driving penalties will come into effect from midnight tonight, as drivers caught over the limit will now face automatic disqualification from the road.
Transport Minister Shane Ross, the main architect of such legislation, announced the introduction of the measures earlier today.
The new penalties had been the object of much political wrangling over the last few months.
